Chief Strategy Officer, swirl mcgarrybowen San Francisco
As Chief Strategy Officer of swirl mcgarrybowen in San Francisco, Kate Walters is obsessed with helping clients unlock transformative growth for their brands and businesses.
A native Chicagoan, Kate has spent her entire career at advertising agencies across the nation – from Chicago to Texas to Boston to New York – before finally putting down roots in San Francisco a decade ago. She has since become a big proponent of the “West Coast, Best Coast” mantra.
Kate draws on two decades of strategic marketing experience across a broad range of categories spanning the CPG, retail, technology, travel, healthcare, financial services, and energy industries including clients such as The Clorox Company, Intel, Nike, Conagra Brands, Kimberly-Clark, Pepsico, Cisco, Microsoft, Royal Caribbean, McKesson, ARCO/ampm, iShares, and Wells Fargo.
Kate discovered her passion for the advertising craft early on at the age of 16, thanks to the suggestion of her high school Psychology textbook. Her love of art and design combined with her desire for greater understanding of human behavior and economics have merged into a keen ability to ferret out consumer insights, brand truths, and business realities that lead to powerful creative outputs with great impact and effectiveness in the world.
Underpinning her practical experience, Kate holds an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and an AB in psychology from Duke University.
Kate lives in San Francisco and is a passionate home cook. When she’s not going on urban hikes in the Presidio with her rescue mutt Wally, she’s likely experimenting with a new recipe or “treasure hunting” in the markets and grocery stores of San Francisco’s ethnic neighborhoods, seeking out unfamiliar ingredients with which to play.
