President, New York
Angela Johnson was recently named the president of mcgarrybowen New York, bringing 25 years of integrated marketing, business development, digital, CRM and advertising and now takes the reins of the flagship office.
Before joining mcgarrybowen, Angela was a senior client leader with WPP, partnering with all disciplines to develop brand building, commercially focused ideas that build client businesses. In 2009, Angela relocated to the U.S. with her husband and two children to Chicago and took on global leadership of the Motorola account and then the Baby/Childcare division of Kimberly-Clark. There she grew the KC Babycare brands in the face of declining birthrates and economic pressures.
Prior to that she worked for Ogilvy London running the BP business globally and WWF. There she pitched and won the Pernod Ricard Whisky business. The main focus was the flagship brand The Glenlivet and maintaining its leadership position in the USA while growing sales in other regions. She spent 13 years DDB London working across many sectors, primarily finance with Reuters and Barclays and the global drinks business with Coors, and what was then called International Distillers and Vintners on Malibu, Baileys Irish Cream, The Singleton Whisky and many more from their spirits portfolio.
Supporting diversity and inclusion has been more than a passion for Angela, and within weeks of moving to New York, Angela was one of 14 founding members of the Time’s Up Advertising movement, and has joined the Executive Committee of She Runs It.
A native Brit, Angela has also lived in Japan. Counted among her many talents is a command of languages, including German, French, Japanese, and a basic level of Spanish.
